The Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry at the Sharavathi Dental College and Hospital, Shimoga, is a warm and fun-loving team. Our department adopts offering oral health services for society as a fundamental principle. The department’s primary mission includes teaching, service and research. The department offers oral and dental health care and treatment services for neonates, children and teenagers as well as children requiring special interest.
It offers pre-doctoral training graduate programme leading to Bachelor of Dental Surgery awarded by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. This graduate course is approved and accredited by Dental Council of India. In addition to their pre-doctoral training, the Department is proud to announce the commencement of the their post-doctoral training program for three students from a very select group of applicants.
The pediatric department is also dedicated to providing service in the community. They participate in the various community based programmes such as, pre-kindergarten educational experience for low-income children, and provide dental treatment to underprivileged children; most of whom have severe and profound disabilities; in and around the district of Shimoga city. By providing dental care for Deaf and Blind children, the department allows their their pre-doctoral as well as post-doctoral students and interns to have valuable clinical educational experience with patients who have disabilities.
Currently, the department has around 20 chairs with separate area for under graduates and post graduates. There is an area for diagnosis and counselling and staff research. The department has a library. Students get to learn to use state-of-the-art equipment of advanced technology for their work. It offers modern education and scientific research opportunities for dentistry students The department library has 35 titled books for various reference purposes.
The vision of the Department of Pedodontics is to become a leading center of quality and bring out innovations on training programs on Pediatric dentistry, clinical services and scientific research.
